Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site Management Authority Tourism Information Sessions

Below is the report back on the recent meetings (9th and 12th May 2018) of the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site Management Authority
The stakeholders mentioned in the presentation are all those influenced and affected by the Word Heritage site.
However broader than that – its the core area, the buffer area (some of our members fall into both ) and then the tourism feed area (that’s Magaliesburg..! )
This is the plan for the next 5 years and decisions will be made that might influence us in a good or bad way.

It is essential that all stakeholders (that is YOU) need to participate – If you don’t participate you can’t complain afterwards…

The COHWHS Management Authority wishes to express their gratitude to all stakeholders who participated in the Introductory Integrated Management Plan sessions held on the 9th and 12th May 2018.
Please find attached a copy of the presentation, for your records.
Please forward this information to all other relevant stakeholders.

Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site Management Authority Tourism Information Sessions

The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site Management Authority will be holding two Tourism Information Sessions which are free of charge and open to the public. Both sessions will be chaired by Mags Pillay, Programme Director of The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site (COHWHS)

  • The first session will take place at Ekudeni from 17h00-19h00 on 31 January 2018.
  • The second session will take place at Sterkfontein from 10h00-12h00 on 03 February 2018.

COHWHS Public meetings form part of the stakeholder engagement plan for the COHWHS. The meetings provide an opportunity for the Management Authority (MA) to interact with stakeholders in the area, and to share information on ongoing projects and future plans. The meetings include inputs by the local municipal officials. The invitation to attend the meeting is also often extended to the local media so that they can further report on these plans. Without these meetings, the public living in the area would not be aware of the plans for the World Heritage Site. The meetings also fulfill the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) requirements of managing sites with stakeholders. The M.A also uses these meetings to pick up emerging issues of major concern that the public wishes to raise, towards the better development of the World Heritage Site.

Yesterday (21 June 2017) the first MBF Business Expo was held at Valley Lodge and Spa in Magaliesburg.

The Expo was the brainchild of local business woman Hannelie Hartman and was organized by the Magalies Business Forum.
Tables were set-up by Valley Lodge in one of their conference halls and on the grassed area just outside.
A very pleasant buffet breakfast was provided by Valley Lodge catering department.
The Expo was very well attended and provided both a place for local businesses, from small single person businesses to the much larger tourist destinations, to share their wares as well as an opportunity for everyone to meet and network.

De Hoek Country Hotel announces the launch of its “Bread tags-for-Wheelchairs” campaign.

De Hoek Country Hotel, in collaboration with the Bekker Primary School, Magaliesburg and the Impala Rissies Wheelchair Rugby Club, is launching a massive drive to collect as many bread tags as possible to provide wheelchairs to those in need.

So what do you do with the little tag that keeps the bag closed? And have you ever wondered what you could do with the bread tags that normally end up in the dustbin?

Well, they could be used to help someone in need of a wheelchair!

Bread tags – the little plastic thingamajigs that keep the bag closed – come in many shapes, sizes and colours and are made of such high-quality polystyrene that they have excellent recycling value. It takes 200 bread bags, filled with tags packed into 10 black bags, or 200 kg of tags to bring in enough money to buy one wheelchair. Collecting bread tags, even broken ones, makes a difference to the environment as they are melted down and recycled into picture frames, skirting, cornices, seedling trays, coat hangers and other items.

In order to gift a wheelchair, we need 200kg bread tags“, says Angelique van der Merwe, De Hoek’s Marketing Manager , “and we are calling all schools,  learners, teachers, parents and friends, to collect the tags from the loaves they buy, as many as possible,  as they’ll  be helping provide wheelchairs for people who can’t afford to purchase them”.
